Class Horror Trailer Review
Name Of Film: Day Of The Dead Year
Of Release: 1985
Genre Of Trailer: Gory Horror Mark Given After Viewing: 2/10
What happened in the trailer?
In this highlights trailer we see an audience viewing the
film, the trailer shows both the reaction of a cinema audience watching the
film as well as clips of the film, there is also a voice over to dictate the
story line of the film. This is designed to establish the narrative style, the
film genre and the expected audience reaction. For the most part the trailer
flicks between the audience and the film, however as the end of the trailer
nears, the audience changes with a zombie being present, this is designed to
help reinforce the ideas and plots that the film contains.
Which positive, cleaver or interesting aspects do you think
you could include in your own trailer? What generic features are fulfilled
well?
I think that this trailer has and interesting and unique
concept, the idea of showing the audience reaction appears highly original.
Personally I feel that the trailer showed a good introduction of character,
this gave a good setting so that the viewers could see the different actors and
actresses in the film.
Which aspects of the trailer did you think were unsuccessful,
and would put off its target audience? How is it disappointing?
I felt that over all this was a fairly disappointing
trailer, there was a lack of pace with the speed of the montage, and this made
it feel like it would be a slow film with very little action. This feeling was
reinforced with a lack of jump scare at the end this made the trailer un-memorable
and dull. I also feel that the trailer gave a false impression of the film,
with a lack of gore seen in the trailer audiences would not expect the amount
of body horror that features in the film. The voice over in combination with
the music appeared trashy and at points comical. Finally the cinema audience
that is seen watching the film appears bored and un-excited with what is happening
on the screen, this would turn perspective audiences away as they would think
that the film is un-interesting.
What was the trailer’s average score in class? Why did it
receive that mark?
In class this trailer received an average score of 2/10,
this was mainly due to the poor representation of the film, and the comical
style of the trailer that would deter audiences.
