Class Horror Trailer Review
Name Of Film: 30 Days Of Night Year
Of Release: 2007
Genre Of Trailer: Action Horror Mark Given After Viewing: 8/10
What happened in the trailer?
At the beginning of this highlights trailer the viewer sees
an ordinary family going about their everyday lives until a vampire bursts in
the window. The trailer then cuts to a series of establishing shots
inter-mingled with text, beginning to tell the narrative. When the vampires
attack restricted narration is then heavily used to create the atmosphere of
gore and action while keeping it a green band trailer.
Which positive, cleaver or interesting aspects do you think
you could include in your own trailer? What generic features are fulfilled
well?
I thought that it was a very interesting idea to start with
a jump scare, it helped grab the attention of the audience and immediately set
the mood for the film, I would consider using this idea in my own trailer as I
think that it was a really good way to get the pace of the trailer. The speed
of the music fit well with the speed of the action and helped to keep the pace
of the trailer. I felt that the dialogue in the piece was good as it created
interest. I also think that the length of the dialogue and the space between
pieces of dialogue was good as it way that the dialogue was used was good as it
gave tone and emotion to the trailer without overloading the viewer. The use of body horror and restricted
narration worked well, as it gives a sense of the intensity and the drama
without showing exactly what was happening, this left it up to the imagination.
Finally, I think that the animated effects on the text was good as it
reinforced all the images of blood and death, this helped tie the whole piece
together.
Which aspects of the trailer did you think were
unsuccessful, and would put off its target audience? How is it disappointing?
I think that the trailer could have done with a few more
jump scares after the initial one; if the trailer had ended on another jump
scare then I think it would be even more memorable. I feel that too many of the
shots faded to black, epically as it got closer to the end; I think that this
disrupted the pace of the trailer, which overall was generally good. I also
think that in places the music could have been slightly more dramatic; this
would have created a bigger impact and would have made a bigger impression on
the viewer.
What was the trailer’s average score in class? Why did it
receive that mark?
The class gave an average score of 7/10. This was because it
was generally good however, the class felt that there could have been a few
more jump scares after the one at the beginning to keep the interest of the
viewer.
