Class Horror Trailer Review: Evil Dead (2013)

Name Of Film: Evil Dead                Year Of Release: 2013

Genre Of Trailer: Gory Horror                     Mark Given After Viewing: 7/10

What happened in the trailer?

This highlights trailer showed a series of climax points from the film. Ending on a disturbing shot of a woman cutting her tongue in two before forcing another woman to kiss her.

Which positive, cleaver or interesting aspects do you think you could include in your own trailer? What generic features are fulfilled well?

I felt that the music was very fitting with the scenes and helped to create tension, it also worked with the speed of piece. It showed a good contrast in tempo starting of relatively slowly and finishing with impact, this created a good build up in dramatic tension and created interest in the piece. I felt that with this piece the dialogue was used effectively to give drama, I think that this is something we could use in our trailer. I also felt that the text was very fitting with the piece working with the narrative to build tension.

Which aspects of the trailer did you think were unsuccessful, and would put off its target audience? How is it disappointing?

Personally, I didn’t like it when the same clip was repeated again, I felt that it stopped the flow of the trailer and made the clip hold less impact. I will try to avoid this in my trailer as I don’t want the viewer to stop connecting with the trailer. I also felt that for a trailer the body horror was a bit over the top, leaving the viewer to wonder what there was left to see.

What was the trailer’s average score in class? Why did it receive that mark?

The class gave this trailer an average score of 8.5 this is because it was generally a very good trailer however they thought that it featured a bit too much body horror for a trailer.
